During Tudor times poor people wore clothes made from woollen cloth. They were really simple to sew. Most of the poor men wore trousers made from wool, and a tunic that came down to their knees. Poor women wore a dress that was touching the ground, and it was made of wool. Often, they put an apron over the dress and a cloth bonnet on their heads. Women clothing at Tudor times made them look like two triangles. Their corsets were very tight to make them look thinner, while their gowns were very wide. Menβs clothes made them have a square shape. They wore short jackets and their coats shoulders were cut wide.
Early Tudor clothes for women included: a Head-dress, a corset, a gown and a kirtle. Men wore: a hat, a coat, sleeves, a doublet and a house.
Late Tudor clothes for women included: a ruff, a bodice, a farthingale and a skirt. Men wore: a ruff, a jacket, a doublet and a hose.
Dressing Queen Elizabeth took half-a-hour! First servants put a chemise on Elizabeth, then a petticoat, farthingale, corset, bumroll, parlet, kirtle and a gown.
